Viridi Signs 20-Year Deal with Énergir for Pipeline-Quality RNG
(P&GJ) — Viridi Energy has secured a 20-year agreement to supply pipeline-quality renewable natural gas (RNG) to Énergir L.P., the largest natural gas distribution company in Quebec.
Starting next year, Viridi will deliver 650,000 gigajoules of RNG annually from its facilities in Brunswick, Maine; Marathon County, Wisconsin; and Bethlehem, New Hampshire. This supply will account for about 50% of the total volume produced at these sites and will provide enough energy to heat over 10,000 homes for a year.
“Viridi Energy is proud to partner with Énergir, a leader in decarbonizing North American energy,” said Dan Crouse, CEO of Viridi. “This agreement will help Énergir achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.”
Vincent Regnault, executive director of gas supply and renewable gas development at Énergir, emphasized the importance of the partnership. “Viridi’s expertise allows us to increase RNG volumes within our grid and support our customers in reducing their carbon footprint,” he said. “This long-term agreement will help us reach our target of injecting a minimum of 10% RNG by 2030.”
This deal marks the first major contract for Viridi Energy Marketing and Trading LLC, Viridi’s new commercial arm. The three facilities supplying the RNG are key assets in Viridi's expanding portfolio.
In recent developments, Viridi acquired a biosolids digester plant in Brunswick in March 2024, an in-progress landfill gas-to-RNG project in Bethlehem in December 2023, and partnered with Marathon County in March 2023 to convert landfill emissions into clean RNG.
