Pipe Contract Awarded For Queensland Curtis LNG Project

Australia’s Queensland Gas Company has awarded Baosteel subsidiary Howa Trading Co. a contract for the manufacture of 550 km of pipeline for its Queensland Curtis LNG Project.

The 42-inch AP1 5L X70-coated pipe will be manufactured by Baosteel in Shanghai with deliveries to Brisbane and Gladstone, Australia starting in October.

The pipe represents the collection header pipeline and 340-km main export line that will transport 190 PJ/y of coal seam gas to an $US7.4 billion onshore coal seam gas to LNG production and export facility in Gladstone from BG Group subsidiary Queensland Gas Company’s CSG fields in southern Queensland’s Surat Basin.

Queensland Gas Company said the pipeline, which will be the largest diameter gas pipe laid onshore in Australia, cannot be manufactured by Australian steel mills due to its size. Queensland Gas expects to select a pipeline contractor later this year.
