TGL Pipeline Plans Move Ahead

The feasibility study for the Tauern Gas Pipeline (TGL) to transport gas a distance of 290 km from Haiming in Bavaria through Austria to the area of Malborghetto/Tarvis in Italy is nearing completion.

The study supported by the EU for the project has reportedly shown that it is technically feasible to construct the pipeline across the Alps to connect Austria and the central European gas network with the Mediterranean region and the gas markets of Italy.

As a result, the project partners have reportedly decided to conduct an environmental impact assessment. If the results of the environmental impact assessment and capacity allocation are positive, construction of the pipeline is scheduled to begin in 2013 with commissioning in 2017.
