After Election Losses, Obama Focuses On "Terrific Natural Gas Resources"

With the proposed cap and trade bill definitively dead as Republicans retake the U.S. House of Representatives, President Obama spoke Nov. 3 about possible areas for bipartisan cooperation, including energy policy that increases national focus on natural gas.

“We’ve got, I think, broad agreement that we’ve got terrific natural gas resources in this country,” Obama said. “Are we doing everything we can to develop those?”

Energy independence and emissions were the two areas Obama mentioned as priorities in the energy field, saying the cap and trade bill was “just one way of skinning the cat” on controlling carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. He also cited natural gas vehicles as a development with bipartisan appeal.
