T.D. Williamson, Inc. GMFL Inspection Tool

T.D. Williamson, Inc. recently announced the rollout of a 48-inch gas magnetic flux leakage (GMFL) inspection tool, engineered at the TDW facility in Salt Lake City, UT.

The company said the new tool has had a field run on a natural gas line in Canada and its availability “reveals the sheer versatility of the services that TDW offers.” The tool is said to be uniquely designed to fill a niche in the ILI market because gas pipelines do not offer the lubricant advantages to MFL tools found in liquids pipelines. The TDW tool addresses the challenge of inspecting a dry gas line surface with three strategies: 1) each magnetizer “floats” individually so the magnetic force is consistent whether in a thick or thin wall location, or a tight bend; 2) traditional coarse steel brushes are replaced with smooth, flat wear skid plates that glide more easily; and 3) the tool’s design allows for a bore reduction of as much as 25% and it is about half the weight of other 48-inch tools. www.tdwilliamson.com.
