FGTs Phase VIII Expansion Begins Service On Time, Within Budget

Southern Union Company placed the $2.48 billion Florida Gas Transmission Company (FGT) Phase VIII Expansion project in service on April 1, as scheduled.

The expansion increases the capacity of FGT’s mainline facilities from the Mobile Bay, AL area to southern Florida and provides additional firm transportation service capacity throughout Florida to meet the state’s rising energy demand. The FGT Phase VIII Expansion project included the construction of approximately 483 miles of pipeline and 213,600 horsepower of additional mainline compression in Alabama and Florida.

Eric D. Herschmann, vice chairman, president and COO of Southern Union said, “We are pleased to have placed the Phase VIII Expansion into service on time and within budget. This project will benefit the company and its shareholders as well as provide our Florida customers with the natural gas they need. Natural gas demand in Florida is projected to continue to grow and Florida Gas Transmission is well positioned to continue to provide our customers with reliable supply.”
