Heerema Fabrication Awarded Centrica York Platform Order

Centrica Energy has awarded Heerema Hartlepool, one of the three fabrication locations of Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG), the EPCI contract for construction of the 2,750 ton York platform destined for the York Field Development gasfield in the UK Continental Shelf.

At HFG’s Hartlepool fabrication facility construction of the platform started in April. The 1,300 ton topsides for the structure measures 20 meters in length, 15 meters in width and 16 meters in height. The 1,450 ton jacket, with a height of 69 meters and a footprint of 30 x 20 meters, will be installed in a water depth of approximately 43 meters. Transport and installation of Centrica’s York platform has been awarded to Heerema’s sister division, Heerema Marine Contractors. The York platform is an unmanned facility with a tie back to Centrica’s Easington gas terminal via a 34-km, 16-inch pipeline.

The York Field development will exploit gas reservoirs in the Southern North Sea of the UK Continental Shelf, approximately 35- km Northeast of Easington.

Currently at Heerema’s Hartlepool yard the fabrication work continues on another Centrica project, the 1,100 ton Ensign platform. This Seaharvester type platform consists of a 600 ton topsides and a 500 ton jacket, for which Heerema’s engineering company, HFG Engineering, has executed the design work. It is expected that the Ensign platform will be ready for installation in June 2011.
