Wasco Awarded Pipe Coating Contracts

Wasco Energy’s Pipe Coating Division has been awarded a line pipe coating contract with a value of over US$2 million from Samsung Engineering Co. Limited for the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) project.

The contract involves the coating of 12-km of 28-inch and 10-km of 36-inch with asphalt enamel and concrete weight coating system. Work will be undertaken at Wasco’s primary coating plant in Kuantan, Malaysia and is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Sacrificial aluminum anodes associated with this project will be supplied by Wasco Energy’s subsidiary, Wasco Corrosion Services Sdn Bhd.

The SOGT will receive, store and export crude oil as well as receive, process, compress and transport the gas produced from the fields offshore Sabah. Covering an area of about 250 acres, the SOGT will have the capacity to handle up to 300,000 bopd and 1.0 Bcm/d of gas. The crude oil and condensate received and stored at the terminal will be loaded into vessels for export through single point moorings located about 10-km offshore Kimanis.

In other news, Wasco Energy’s Pipe Coating Division was awarded a $A41.96 million line pipe coating contract for the Australian Pacific LNG (APLNG) Project.

The contract involves the coating of over 700-km of line pipe; including 450-km of 42-inch diameter gas transmission pipeline for the transport of dehydrated and compressed coal seam gas from the Surat Basin and Bowen Basin to a proposed LNG processing site located at Laird Point on Curtis Island, Gladstone. Work will be at Wasco’s primary coating plant in Kuantan, Malaysia, and is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2011, with a completion target of 2012.

The APLNG Project is a joint venture between Origin Energy Limited and ConocoPhillips.
