Enbridge May Add Bakken Crude Pipeline Capacity
Enbridge is considering options to expand its crude pipeline capacity in the Bakken region in addition to company projects already proposed and under way, shippers said last month. According to Platts, shippers said Enbridge presented the potential options at a meeting in Denver Jan. 10.
By working on other projects to debottleneck existing pipelines on Enbridge’s main line, Enbridge should be able to ship additional Bakken crude, shippers said.
The Sandpiper Scope option would add 180,000 bpd of capacity from Beaver Lodge, ND to Steelman, Saskatchewan, and 325,000 bpd into Cromer, Manitoba. Receipts would be at Beaver Lodge, McGregor and Lignite, all in North Dakota. Another option would add 225,000 bpd of pipeline capacity from Beaver Lodge to Clearbrook, MN with an expandable capacity to 325,000 bpd. Receipts would be at Beaver Lodge, Stanley, Berthold and Minot, all in North Dakota.
A 12-inch, 35-mile pipeline from Sanish, ND is also being considered. It would provide 100,000 bpd of capacity to Beaver Lodge. The project would include two 40,000-barrel tanks.
Enbridge already has several pipeline capacity expansion projects planned for the Bakken region including the Bakken Pipeline Project Canada, a 77-mile line from Steelman, Saskatchewan, to Cromer, Manitoba, where it will link to Enbridge’s main pipeline system. The pipeline will ship crude from Berthold, ND to Cromer, Manitoba.
