Obituary: James Harvey

Mobile Pipe Lining and Coating announced the death of its long-time general manager, James “Jim” Harvey, of Apple Valley, California, on Nov. 14. He was 56 years old.  

During his more than 25 years in the industry Jim was an active participant in many industry-related groups, including National Association of Pipe Coating Applicators, where he served on the Board of Trustees for an extended period, culminating with holding the post of Vice President.   

In a separate announcement, NAPCA’s managing director and general counsel, Merritt Chastain, remembered Harvey as a tremendous contributor to the association.  

“Whether it was assisting in generating sponsorships, securing quality speakers or conducting site visits for future conventions, Jim never shied away from helping where it was necessary,” Chastain said. “I know that all who knew him will mis him dearly, and NAPCA’s thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.  

Harvey also was a member of SWPTAC, NACE and AWWA.  

“(Jim’s) contributions to the advancement of the coatings industry were second to none,” Mobile Pipe wrote in its announcement of Harvey’s passing. “His attention to detail, resourcefulness, and knowledge of equipment and various coatings technologies combined with an extraordinary ability to lead people and projects made him one of the leading resources in the coatings industry.  

“Jim loved woodworking, boating, bike riding, movies, travel and going to the beach. Above all else, though, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had an endless amount of energy and optimism which never waned, even in his last days of life. Throughout his life, Jim led by example, and he inspired countless people along the way. We at Mobile Pipe will sincerely miss him and we offer our sincerest condolences to Jim’s family.”  

Harvey is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jolyn, a daughter, Grayson, 25, and son, Connor, 22.
