FEED Awarded for QatarEnergy LNG’s CO2 Sequestration Project

Worley will develop the FEED and EPC scope of work for QatarEnergy LNG’s CO2 sequestration facility, in Ras Laffan, Qatar, capable of capturing 4.3 mtpa of CO2.

The CO2 project will have the capacity will help QatarEnergy LNG further reduce its environmental impact by reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from QatarEnergy LNG North’s 7 LNG trains and QatarEnergy LNG South’s 3 LNG trains.

The captured CO2 from the trains will be compressed and injected into the new injection wells. New compression trains and pipelines will be needed after the FEED is completed.

The project team at Worley’s Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Centre of Excellence will prove the pre-FEED concept by modeling the CO2 capture process. This approach will provide a template for using the technology in the future on the remaining trains at QatarEnergy LNG South and North.

“This project presents an opportunity to utilize our in-depth knowledge of the region and global expertise in delivering FEED services to the CCUS sector to drive project delivery,” Nawar Chapman, manager for Qatar and Kuwait at Worley said. “As we work toward our purpose of delivering a more sustainable world.”

The project will involve Worley Qatar and Australia teams and is set for completion in April 2024.
