Poland, Ukraine Look to Speed Up European Gas Pipeline

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Ukraine’s president says his country and Poland want to speed up the construction of a pipeline link that would bring gas from Europe to Ukraine and aims to cut dependence on Russian deliveries.
Petro Poroshenko, on a visit to Poland, said Friday that he and Polish President Andrzej Duda will urge their ministers responsible for the economy to have the link built “as soon as possible.”
Ukraine is dependent on natural gas from Russia, which has in the past cut deliveries and raised prices as a means of applying political pressure.
Under the current plan, the 112-km (70 mile) link is to be ready in 2020.
