API Honors Companies for Pipeline Safety
The American Petroleum Institute awarded its 2016 Distinguished Safety and Environmental Award to Chevron Pipe Line Company and Portland Pipe Line Corporation. This is API’s highest safety and environmental performance award for pipeline operators, and it was presented to the companies at API’s 68th annual pipeline conference in San Antonio, Texas.
“Safety is a core value throughout our entire industry,” said API Pipeline Manager David Murk. “We are committed to protecting our workers and the environment, and we are building on our track record of ensuring that 99.999 percent of the product that travels through a pipeline arrives at its destination without incident. Chevron Pipe Line Company and Portland Pipe Line Corporation exemplify our industry’s commitment to safety.”
Chevron Pipe Line won the award in the large operator category for the second year in a row, and Portland Pipe Line won in the small operator category for the second time in four years. The award reflects the consistent record of safety and environmentally sound operations by both companies.
In other related awards, BP Pipelines (North America) Inc. won the Occupational Safety Performance Award for large operators. In the small operator category, five companies shared that honor, including CITGO Pipeline Company, Crimson Pipeline LLC, MIPC LLC, Portland Pipe Line, and Running Horse Pipeline LLC, all reporting no OSHA recordable incidents for employees and contractors.
The Environmental Performance Award in the small operator category, with each recipient reporting no releases, went to MIPC LLC and Portland Pipe Line. Both Chevron Pipe Line and Spectra Energy Liquids won the award in the large operator category, also reporting no releases.
