NEXUS Pipeline Gets Ohio Water Permit

The Ohio EPA has issued a Water Quality Certification for Enbridge’s Nexus Transmission Pipeline Project to be constructed in Columbiana, Stark, Summit, Wayne, Medina, Lorain, Huron, Erie, Sandusky, Wood, Lucas, Henry and Fulton counties.

The 255-mile NEXUS Transmission Pipeline Project will transport 1.5 Bcf/d of clean-burning natural gas from receipt points in eastern Ohio to existing pipeline system interconnects in southeastern Michigan.

During its review of the project, the Ohio EPA considered technical, economic, social and environmental aspects of the project, held an information session and public hearing on the application, and received and reviewed public input throughout an initial and extended comment period.  In addition, the agency is requiring Enbridge to have and implement very detailed contingency plans for managing unanticipated releases to the environment, such as inadvertent returns, and a storm water pollution prevention plan to manage possible storm-water-related impacts to the environment.
