Boskalis to Manage Seabed, Shore Crossing for Scarborough Pipeline
(P&GJ) — Netherlands-based Royal Boskalis Westminster said it has been awarded a contract valued at $162 million (145 million euros) for seabed intervention and shore-crossing activities for the proposed Scarborough export gas pipeline in northwestern Australia.
The contract awarded by Woodside Energy as operator of the Scarborough Joint Venture is subject to a final investment decision, which is expected in 2020, Boskalis said. The seabed intervention and shore crossing works are scheduled to start in March 2021 with an expected completion mid-2022.
The scope of activities covered under contract include: pre-trenching of the nearshore pipeline route along a 31-mile (50-km) section; offshore deep water excavation works; pre-lay and post-lay rock installation for pipeline and fiber optic cable crossings; the post-installation burial, and other protection works to ensure the stability of the pipeline. Boskalis also will provide support for the shore crossing to the onshore processing facility on the Burrup Peninsula, as well as rock supply, the company said.
To fulfill the contract, Boskalis said it will draw upon expertise from a wide range of in-house specialists and deploy a variety of equipment, including a trailing suction hopper dredger, backhoe dredger, dynamically positioned fallpipe vessel and rock installation vessel, survey vessels and an offshore construction vessel.
The Scarborough gas field is situated approximately 233 miles (375 km) offshore the Burrup Peninsula in northwest Australia. The proposed export pipeline will transport natural gas between the Scarborough Floating Production Unit and the onshore processing plant.
