A.Hak International Awarded Onshore Baltic Pipe Contract
(P&GJ) — Netherlands-based A.Hak International said it has been awarded a contract for construction of a Danish onshore section of the Baltic Pipe Project by Energinet.
The contract gives A.Hak responsibility for construction of 42 miles (70 km) of natural gas pipeline on Zealand, Denmark, from Kongsmark in the Northwest to Energinet's new compressor station near Everdrup, continuing to the southeast coast of Zealand, near Faxe.
Danish gas transmission operator Energinet and Polish gas transmission operator GAZ-System are jointly developing the new bidirectional transnational pipeline, which will link the Norwegian North Sea offshore gas fields with markets in both Denmark and Poland.
Once completed, the Baltic Pipe Project will enable the transport of gas from fields in Norway to the Danish and Polish markets, as well as to customers in neighboring countries. It is expected to be placed in service in 2022.
The $2 billion, 560-mile (900-km) Baltic Pipe will reduce dependence on Russian gas. The project received financial support from the EU.
