Energy Transfer Natural Gas Pipeline Suffers Methane Leak in Texas
(PG&J) — A natural gas pipeline operated by Energy Transfer LP leaked methane from a 16-inch pipe last month in Texas, according to Bloomberg.
The incident occurred on its Big Cowboy pipeline, which is co-owned by Kinder Morgan and runs through Webb County, Texas. The pipeline is a part of a larger group of unregulated gathering lines across the U.S. that work as links between production fields and transmission lines.
Reports show that the ETC Texas Pipeline unit reported a line break to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality that lasted from 8:08 a.m. to 9:17 a.m. March 17. Ultimately, the leak caused the release of 52,150 thousand standard cubic feet of natural gas.
In a statement to Seeking Alpha, Energy Transfer said it will “continue to generate strong fundamental performance and its prospects look favorable moving forward.”
An investigation into the cause of the leak is still ongoing and all appropriate regulatory notifications were made, the company said.
