Lake Superior Competing for P&GJ Award for Best Corrosion Technology
Pipeline & Gas Journal Awards judges recently narrowed down a significant number of nominations and announced finalists for its upcoming event Nov. 17.
The program honors the midstream’s leading innovations and outstanding personal contributions to the pipeline industry.
Among the finalists in the Best Coating/Corrosion Advancement Technology award is Lake Superior Consulting’s Atmospheric Corrosion Inspection (ACI) iLINE App, which helps pipeline owners maintain continuous pipeline operations while adhering to Atmospheric Corrosion Inspections (ACI), which are required every three years by Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) 49 CFR § 192.481.
The ACI app is a cloud-based application that can be accessed on mobile devices or desktop computers. Its form-based application digitally automates the inspection process so that records are traceable, verifiable, and complete. The iLINE platform is an intuitive digital solution that incorporates our expertise into an easily accessible portal with a rich visualization of key information. This provides the timely decision-making needed to ensure safe and reliable inspection programs.
Because pipelines can be damaged by corrosion when exposed to the atmosphere, inspections and assessments should not be delayed due to tedious data gathering and management methods. The ACI application provides intuitive and standardized reports with easy-to-comprehend results that simplify how users gather data, maintain compliance, and mitigate conditions that could lead to pipeline failure.
Utilizing the ACI mobile app, field personnel can prioritize assets and perform the inspections by selecting the asset, performing the assessment, and then submitting the results. Field data is accessible to view and comprehend results immediately.
Users have current and complete data records without transcription errors or delays. Project managers then view detailed reports to filter and prioritize assets by their condition and communicate the remediation plan to the team, often while they are still in the field - saving valuable crew time.
