Damaged Line Triggers Natural Gas Leak in College Station, Texas
(P&GJ) — At around 4:00 p.m. on Monday, the Texas Avenue and Richards Street neighborhood was the scene of a gas leak that the College Station Fire Department and College Station Police attempted to contain.
Texas Avenue's north and southbound lanes were blocked down while Atmos, College Station Utilities, and the College Station Fire Department tried to contain the leak, which was about 15 feet underground.
WTAW News reported that an Atmos Energy official told the media outlet that the natural gas line was struck by a unidentified construction company unrelated to Atmos.
Numerous businesses and residents were eventually forced to evacuate because of the spill due to elevated gas levels in the neighborhood while an Atmos employee fixed the gas line.
In the latest update, local news station KBTX reported that after nearly 24 hours of the leak, officials have attempted but failed to stop the leak.
