FERC Grants Venture Global Approval for Steam Generator Modifications at Louisiana LNG Plant
(Reuters) — The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Thursday granted liquefied natural gas (LNG) company Venture Global LNG permission to proceed with the heat recovery steam generator modifications at the Calcasieu Pass LNG export plant in Louisiana.
"This approval does not grant Venture Global the authority to place other project facilities in service at the LNG terminal," the FERC filing added.
On Tuesday, Venture Global asked federal energy regulators for permission to commence service of liquefaction blocks 7-9 at the export plant.
The startup of commercial service at that plant is the subject of several disputes between Venture Global and some of its customers, including units of European energy firms Shell, BP, Edison and Repsol.
There are 18 modular liquefaction trains configured in nine blocks at Calcasieu. Each block can produce about 1.3 million metric tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG, or 0.2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas.
