Brazos Midstream Nears Completion of 175-Mile Gas Pipeline in Midland Basin
(P&GJ) — Brazos Midstream has reached key milestones in its expansion of gas infrastructure in the Midland Basin, a major oil and gas production area in the U.S.
The company has completed the new Sundance I cryogenic gas processing facility in Martin County, Texas, which will begin operations in October 2024. This facility, with a capacity of 200 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d), is part of a broader effort that includes constructing approximately 175 miles of high-pressure natural gas gathering pipelines.
The pipeline network covers several counties including Ector, Howard, and Midland, and will connect to 10 compressor stations. Once this phase is completed, Brazos will manage around 260 miles of gathering pipelines in the Midland Basin.
Looking ahead, Brazos plans to add a 300 MMcf/d cryogenic gas processing facility by late 2025, increasing its total processing capacity to 500 MMcf/d.
The expansion is supported by equity from Old Ironsides Energy, Encap Flatrock Midstream, and other investors, along with a recent preferred equity investment and an increased revolving credit facility from BOK Financial. These investments strengthen Brazos' ability to grow its operations.
“These expansion projects are a testament to our continued commitment to build high-quality assets in the Permian Basin and provide the highest level of service for our producer customers,” Brad Iles, Brazos CEO, said. “The Permian Basin accounts for a quarter of all marketed natural gas production in the Lower 48 and, despite being discovered over a century ago, production is estimated to continue increasing for years to come. Our asset base represents mission critical infrastructure that provides reliable capacity for existing Permian gas production that has been historically underserved.”
Brazos also operates a significant midstream network in the Southern Delaware Basin, including the Comanche processing complex with a capacity of 460 MMcf/d. The company also owns and operates approximately 900 miles of natural gas, natural gas liquids, and crude oil gathering pipelines and 75,000 barrels of crude oil storage that service production from approximately 540,000 dedicated acres and over 25 upstream producer customers, composed primarily of large, publicly traded and investment grade companies.
