McDermott Opens Advanced Pipeline Welding and Technology Hub in Dubai
(P&GJ) — McDermott has inaugurated a state-of-the-art welding and technology center at the Oilfields Supply Center in Dubai's Jebel Ali Freezone. The 4,100-square-meter facility, designed for research, development, and qualification, can accommodate up to 250 personnel.
The new hub consolidates McDermott’s global pipeline expertise, creating a central location to streamline project execution and customer services.
"This facility houses our Pipeline Production Group and secures our position as an industry leader in subsea pipeline fabrication and installation," said Mike Sutherland, McDermott's Senior Vice President, Offshore Middle East. "By centralizing our expertise, we can advance world-leading pipeline fabrication and qualification processes while enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and ensuring predictable performance for projects worldwide."
The center provides a comprehensive range of services, including welding, pipeline coating, non-destructive testing, equipment management, production simulation, and targeted research and development. It also features advanced vessel simulation capabilities, such as a full S-lay lineup, a firing line simulation area, and a J-lay rotating table for vertical pipelay.
These technologies enable remote intervention with McDermott's pipelay vessel fleet and support training simulations to improve safety and operational efficiency.
