Steelhead LNG Files Lawsuit Against Cedar LNG, Pembina, and ARC Resources
(P&GJ) — Steelhead LNG, a Vancouver-based liquefied natural gas developer, has initiated legal proceedings in British Columbia against Cedar LNG, Pembina Pipeline Corporation, and ARC Resources Ltd., alleging unauthorized use of proprietary information related to LNG facility development.
According to the claim, Steelhead accuses the defendants of improperly exploiting confidential information provided to ARC Resources, enabling Cedar LNG to secure financial commitments for its project. The lawsuit seeks damages, an injunction to halt ARC Resources’ involvement in the Cedar LNG project, and a suspension of further alleged wrongful activities.
"It is evident to Steelhead that, without relying on ARC Resources' capacity commitment—enabled by what Steelhead believes to be a pattern of wilful and wrongful conduct—Cedar LNG and Pembina would not have been able to secure the substantial financial commitments necessary to reach a positive final investment decision," said Victor Ojeda, president of Steelhead LNG.
Ojeda added that Steelhead remains open to an amicable resolution but has seen little interest from the defendants, leaving judicial intervention as the only option.
Marty Proctor, former CEO of Seven Generations Energy and a director at ARC Resources, is also named in the lawsuit.
In addition to the legal action, Steelhead LNG announced it has been granted three new U.S. patents, expanding protection for its near-shore LNG facility designs. These patents add to Steelhead's portfolio, which includes patents in Canada, Korea, Australia, and Mexico.
Steelhead is also pursuing patent infringement litigation in Korea against Cedar LNG and Samsung Heavy Industries related to its Korea patent, a case that remains ongoing.
