Woodside’s Pluto Train 2 Modules Arrive, Scarborough LNG Project Advances
(P&GJ) — The Scarborough Energy Project achieved a major milestone with the final modules for Pluto Train 2 arriving at the Pluto LNG facility in Karratha, Western Australia. This development brings Woodside Energy closer to its goal of delivering first LNG by 2026.
Since February 2024, 51 modules, weighing a combined 56,000 metric tonnes, have been shipped from Batam, Indonesia, where they were constructed, to Karratha. The expansion adds a second LNG processing train, providing an efficient way to process gas from the offshore Scarborough field.
Once operational, Pluto Train 2 will process about 5 million tonnes of LNG annually. The expanded facility will also supply up to 225 terajoules per day of gas to the Western Australian market through new domestic gas infrastructure.
Construction at the Karratha site began in August 2022 under Bechtel, which was selected to handle engineering, procurement, and construction.
Woodside Executive Vice President Liz Westcott praised the team’s efforts.
“The scale of what has been delivered is an incredible achievement and reflects the team’s commitment and professionalism. The Scarborough Energy Project has made significant progress across multiple work fronts and is now over three-quarters complete,” she said.
Bechtel Energy President Paul Marsden lauded the collaboration between the companies.
“This achievement reflects our shared vision and the unwavering dedication of our project team to cultivate a One Team culture,” Marsden said.
The Scarborough Energy Project is expected to contribute more than A$50 billion in direct and indirect tax payments and create over 3,000 jobs during construction, with about 600 jobs sustained on average during operations.
