BKV Sells First Carbon-Neutral Gas to Kiewit
(P&GJ) — BKV Corp. has announced its first sale of carbon sequestered gas (CSG) to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation. This carbon-neutral natural gas aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain.
Starting this fall, BKV will deliver CSG to Kiewit, priced above the Henry Hub rate. CSG is produced by combining low methane intensity natural gas with carbon offsetting measures across production, processing, and distribution. The emissions data are verified through third-party blockchain technology, ensuring transparency and confidence for buyers.
BKV CEO Chris Kalnin expressed excitement about providing this innovative gas product to Kiewit, aligning with BKV's mission to reduce emissions and impact energy sustainability. Kalnin believes CSG can meet future energy needs while contributing to greenhouse gas reduction.
Kiewit's Fort Worth Maintenance Facility will receive the gas via a new pipeline, also serving the Markum Business Park developed by Wilks Development. Kyle Wilks, CEO of Wilks Development, highlighted the benefits of offering sustainable energy solutions to businesses at the park.
Kalnin emphasized the transparency and trust enabled by blockchain technology in verifying the emissions credentials of CSG. He expressed optimism about future sales and partnerships to further emissions reduction goals.
BKV has previously demonstrated its commitment to carbon reduction through its dedicated CCUS business line, BKV dCarbon Ventures. This initiative focuses on permanent sequestration of CO2 emissions and advancing CCUS innovations. The production of CSG is facilitated by BKV's Barnett Zero project, which aims to sequester 185,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.
