Verde Clean Fuels Taps Chemex Global for Natural Gas-to-Gasoline Facility Design
(P&GJ) — Verde Clean Fuels Inc., a renewable energy firm specializing in converting syngas into gasoline, has enlisted Chemex Global LLC to lead the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase for a proposed natural gas-to-gasoline facility in the Permian Basin.
This move marks a pivotal step forward in Verde's joint development agreement with Cottonmouth Ventures LLC, a subsidiary of Diamondback Energy, aimed at constructing and operating the facility.
Located in Martin County, Texas, the facility is poised to replicate Verde's successful demonstration facility in Hillsborough, New Jersey, on a commercial scale. Leveraging Verde's proprietary STG+ technology, the project aims to produce approximately 2,900 barrels per day of commodity-grade gasoline. FEED work, slated to begin promptly following the contractor selection, is expected to conclude by early 2025. Subsequent to FEED completion and final investment decision (FID), construction is projected to commence, with an anticipated completion date in 2027.
“With the potential to mitigate the flaring of up to 34 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, this proposed project could serve as a template for additional natural gas-to-gasoline projects throughout the Permian Basin and other pipeline-constrained basins in the U.S., as well as addressing flared or stranded natural gas opportunities internationally,” Ernie Miller, CEO of Verde, said.
Matt Rodgers, chief commercial officer of Chemex, echoed Miller's sentiments, emphasizing Chemex's commitment to partnering with Verde and applying its expertise to realize the project's objectives.
