TotalEnergies Restarts Gas Production at Tyra Offshore Hub
(P&GJ) — Denmark's TotalEnergies has resumed gas production at the Tyra hub in the Danish North Sea following a significant redevelopment effort. The revamped hub is expected to produce 5.7 million cubic meters of gas and 22,000 barrels of condensate per day, reaffirming Denmark's self-sufficiency and status as a net exporter of natural gas.
TotalEnergies, in partnership with BlueNord and Nordsøfonden, operates the Tyra field, which represents a crucial component of the Danish Underground Consortium.
Nicolas Terraz, President of Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, highlighted the technological advancements and environmental benefits of the redevelopment project.
"The success of this major redevelopment project owes a lot to the commitment of our teams, our partners, and our contractors,” he stated. “The new Tyra leverages state-of-the-art digital solutions and technological innovations to produce more efficiently and with 30% lower greenhouse gas emissions than the former facilities."
The Tyra field, discovered in 1968 by Maersk Oil, underwent redevelopment starting in September 2019, leading to the installation of eight new platform topsides, two jackets, and six bridges. Notably, the project prioritized sustainability, with 98.5% of materials recovered from retired installations being reused or recycled.
Gas produced from the Tyra hub is transported to Europe through export pipelines connecting to Nybro in Denmark and Den Helder in the Netherlands. The resumption of gas production from Tyra is expected to enhance Europe's security of supply.
