TC Energy Ordered by Canada's Energy Regulator to Further Reduce Pressure on Gas Pipeline
(Reuters) — The Canada Energy Regulator (CER) on Tuesday said it had issued an order to TC Energy's NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) to further reduce the operating pressure for the Grande Prairie Mainline gas pipeline near Edson, Alberta.
A section of the NGTL gas pipeline system in Alberta ruptured and caught fire on April 16, sparking a wildfire in a remote area of Yellowhead County.
Last month, TC Energy said its NGTL gas pipeline system has resumed normal operations. The cause of the rupture was under investigation.
The pressure reduction will be in place until NGTL demonstrates the Grande Prairie Mainline pipeline is safe to operate at a pressure above the restricted operating pressure outlined in the inspection officer order, the CER said.
"Currently we do not have any service restrictions on the NGTL System, and we do not anticipate any service interruption to natural gas delivery," TC Energy said in a statement.
The NGTL is TC Energy's natural gas gathering and transportation system, which transports gas produced in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) to markets in Canada and United States.
