Delfin Reserves Gas Turbine Capacity as Offshore LNG Project Nears Fall FID

(P&GJ) — Delfin Midstream has reserved manufacturing capacity with Siemens Energy for four SGT-750 gas turbine mechanical drive packages, securing key components for its planned floating LNG project in the Gulf of Mexico.

The agreement helps Delfin maintain its construction schedule as the company targets a final investment decision (FID) in fall 2025 for the offshore LNG export project. The turbines will drive the mixed-refrigerant compressors used in the liquefaction system.

Delfin also launched an Early Works program with Samsung Heavy Industries and Black & Veatch to finalize design specifications for the project’s first floating LNG (FLNG) vessel. That work will form the basis for a lump-sum, turnkey engineering, procurement, construction, and integration (EPCI) contract, the company said.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for the development of Delfin’s critical energy infrastructure project,” said Delfin CEO Dudley Poston. “By making this large investment to lock-in critical manufacturing capacity, we have secured our execution schedule with the anticipated delivery of our first FLNG vessel from Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in 2029.”

Delfin’s project will be the first deepwater LNG export port in the United States, following the March 2025 issuance of a deepwater port license from the Maritime Administration (MARAD). Delfin plans to use up to three FLNG vessels capable of producing 13.2 million tonnes of LNG per year.

The FLNG facility will connect to the Delfin-owned UTOS pipeline, the largest natural gas pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico.
