FERC OKs Construction on Mississippi Hub Gas Storage Expansion

(P&GJ) — The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued a Notice to Proceed for Enstor’s Mississippi Hub Expansion Project in Simpson County, Mississippi, the company’s parent Emerald Storage Holdings said on July 9.

Enstar Mississippi natural gas hub

Mississippi Hub is a high-deliverability underground natural gas storage facility on the Bond Salt Dome. FERC’s green light allows Enstor to begin work on three new storage caverns, each designed for roughly 10 Bcf of working capacity. The project will also add injection infrastructure to the site’s existing caverns.

Once complete, the expansion will boost total working gas capacity to 56.3 Bcf—about 2.5 times today’s volume—and increase injection capacity to 1.90 MMDth per day. Withdrawal capacity remains unchanged at 2.40 MMDth per day, as previously certificated.

Enstor said construction starts immediately, with the additional capacity expected in service by 2028.
