EPIC Crude Gains Edge as Corpus Christi Channel Expansion Wraps
(P&GJ) — EPIC Crude Holdings LP said it expects to see continued strategic benefits from the recently completed Channel Improvement Project (CIP) at the Port of Corpus Christi, which enhances access for large tankers and increases hydrocarbon export capacity.
The four-phase CIP, launched in 2017, deepened the channel from 47 to 54 feet and widened it from 400 to 530 feet. The improvements support two-way traffic and reduce transportation costs, allowing the port to better handle crude oil, LNG and other energy exports.
EPIC Crude is positioned to access two Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC)-capable export facilities, local refineries, and additional export docks in Corpus Christi and Ingleside. The company said its strategy offers customers flexible access to end markets, including the Dated Brent market via the EPIC dock.
“Our long-term partnership with the Port of Corpus Christi has been tremendous given their focus on creating the premier energy export facility in the U.S.,” said Brian Freed, CEO of EPIC. “The results of this work can be seen through our business success with EPIC Crude transporting more than 600,000 MBpd to the Corpus Christi market. At the end of the day, we are focused on providing safe and reliable crude oil transport out of the Delaware, Midland and Eagle Ford basins into the Corpus Christi market.”
EPIC noted that its pipeline system can be expanded to add takeaway capacity from the Permian Basin, aligning with growing demand for exports from South Texas.
