Northwind Adds Third AGI Well, Expands Titan Complex in New Mexico
(P&GJ) — Northwind Midstream Partners has secured final approval from the New Mexico Oil Conservation Commission to develop a third acid gas injection (AGI) and carbon sequestration well at its Titan Treating Complex in Lea County, New Mexico.
The new well, targeting the Devonian formation in the Northern Delaware Basin, will raise the site’s total permitted acid gas injection capacity to approximately 37 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). When completed in 2026, the well will also provide redundancy for Northwind’s existing Devonian well and support the company’s broader expansion plans.
Currently, the Titan Complex operates with a treating capacity of 150 MMcf/d and two AGI wells. Northwind plans to complete a third treating train by mid-2025, raising capacity to 200 MMcf/d. With final investment decision (FID) and customer backing, the company expects to double capacity to 400 MMcf/d by 2026.
In a parallel development, Northwind received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approval of its Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) plan. This milestone enables the company to qualify for 45Q tax credits for CO₂ sequestration, aligning with federal emissions reduction incentives.
The company also recently placed into service its fifth compressor station—Pelham Station—with an initial capacity of 25 MMcf/d. This brings Northwind’s total compression capability to 225 MMcf/d across a 200-mile pipeline network equipped to handle sour gas containing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide.
“With these approvals in hand, we look forward to advancing the build out of our Titan Treating Complex, providing our producer partners in Lea County with essential off-spec gas gathering, treating, and sequestration capacity,” said Northwind CEO Matt Spicer.
