TC Energy Begins Toll Collection for 444-Mile Southeast Gateway Pipeline
(P&GJ) — TC Energy Corp. has started collecting tolls from Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) for its Southeast Gateway pipeline, the company announced on June 27. The tolls, including payment for the month of May, were made on time under the terms of their agreement.
The 715-kilometer (444-mile), 1.3 Bcf/d natural gas pipeline was built approximately 13% below its original cost estimate of $3.9 billion and completed in under three years from final investment decision. TC Energy said it continues to work with the newly formed Comisión Nacional de Energía (CNE) to secure regulatory approval of its toll rates, which would allow service to future interruptible users beyond CFE.
“The successful completion of the Southeast Gateway pipeline reflects the unwavering commitment of our team, the CFE and the Ministry of Energy (SENER) to support Mexico’s expanding energy demand and future economic development,” said François Poirier, TC Energy’s President and CEO.
The Mexican government plans to add around 8.5 gigawatts of new natural gas-fired power generation, positioning the Southeast Gateway pipeline as a key component in expanding domestic energy infrastructure and improving access to lower-emission, reliable power sources.
