BKV, Comstock Partner to Develop Carbon Capture Projects at Texas Gas Plants
(P&GJ) — BKV Corp. and Comstock Resources have agreed to collaborate on developing carbon capture projects at two of Comstock’s natural gas processing facilities in Texas.
Under the exclusive, non-binding agreement, BKV will lead the development of carbon capture, utilization and sequestration (CCUS) projects at Comstock’s Bethel and Marquez facilities in the company’s Western Haynesville operating area. Plans call for injecting carbon dioxide waste from the plants into dedicated wells for permanent storage. Final terms are subject to definitive agreements still to be negotiated.
The partnership aims to leverage BKV’s experience in CCUS and Comstock’s role as a leading Haynesville Shale producer. The basin is a key supplier of natural gas to Gulf Coast markets and the growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.
“Collaborating with a premier partner like Comstock is a compelling opportunity to showcase how our CCUS portfolio can enable other natural gas producers to utilize low-carbon infrastructure and operate more sustainably,” said Chris Kalnin, CEO of BKV. “We view carbon capture as essential to the future of responsible energy.”
Comstock CEO M. Jay Allison said the partnership will strengthen the company’s infrastructure and offer scalable, lower-carbon energy solutions.
“BKV’s leadership in carbon capture and storage innovation makes them the ideal partner for executing our vision,” Allison said.
The companies described the agreement as a step toward supporting the long-term viability of natural gas and meeting industrial demand for lower-carbon energy solutions.
