Williams CEO Alan Armstrong Moving to Executive Chairman Role; Zamarin Named New CEO

(P&GJ) — Williams announced a leadership transition effective July 1, 2025, with President and CEO Alan Armstrong set to become Executive Chairman and Executive Vice President Chad Zamarin named as the company’s next CEO. Zamarin will also join the Williams board of directors.

Stephen Bergstrom, current chairman of the board, will transition to lead independent director.

"Alan’s remarkable leadership and commitment to the mission, vision and values of Williams has been fundamental to the company’s success," Bergstrom said. "This transition is the result of a thoughtfully planned, multi-year succession process, and the board and I are confident that Chad will continue to guide Williams to success in the evolving energy landscape."

Armstrong, who joined Williams nearly 40 years ago as an engineer, has led the company since 2011, overseeing major growth initiatives and cementing Williams' focus on natural gas infrastructure. Under his leadership, Williams now handles about one-third of all U.S. natural gas volumes. Armstrong has been a strong advocate for the industry, serving as chair of the National Petroleum Council and as a founding member of Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future.

"As I look at where the company is today, Williams is excelling on all fronts thanks to a strong and energized organization that is very passionate and dedicated to our strategy and to doing the right thing," Armstrong said. "Chad is the right next leader for Williams at this point in our company’s history, and I know he will take the company forward with pride and commitment to our values."

Chad Zamarin

Zamarin joined Williams in 2017 and has led corporate strategy, business development and new energy ventures initiatives. He previously held senior roles at Cheniere Energy and Columbia Pipeline Group.

"I am humbled to take on this new role as Williams’ president and CEO," Zamarin said. "The story of Williams is that of one of the greatest American companies. I look forward to building on that foundation."

Williams said the executive changes were part of a succession plan designed to support long-term growth across its 33,000-mile natural gas pipeline network.
