Ledcor Projects Inc. and Suncor’s Oil Sands Extraction Group took top honors at Suncor Energy Inc.’s President’s Operational Excellence Award on March 17. The program’s two top awards recognize world-class safety performance by Suncor employees and contractors. The employee award went to Suncor’s Oil Sands Extraction Group, which further improved its safety performance by engaging and involving employees and increasing their commitment to safety. The contractor award went to Ledcor Projects Inc., which elevated its commitment to safety at Suncor’s oil sands site by developing a comprehensive training and orientation program for new workers.

The 29 award recipients were chosen by a panel of Suncor judges from nearly 130 nominees. Suncor launched the awards in 2002 as a way to eliminate occupational illness and injuries. Wärtsilä and CEVA Logistics signed an agreement to outsource warehousing operations for Wärtsilä’s 24/7 global spare parts activities in the Netherlands. The operating model will be fully implemented during 2011. Until then, CEVA will manage the existing Dutch warehouse of Wärtsilä in Zwolle and will assist in the design of the new Central Distribution Center.

Allen Precision Equipment will acquire Advanced Lasers and Instruments in Indianapolis, IN. Advanced Lasers will remain an independent company but all operational infrastructure will be consolidated into Allen Precision Equipment in Duluth, GA as part of Leica Geosystems.

Coble Trench Safety, Inc. of Greensboro, NC has opened a branch in Norfolk, VA to service the Tidewater and surrounding area in Virginia.

IronPlanet® liquidated $859,000 of rental equipment for Kent Rental of Pensacola, FL. IronPlanet conducted a one-owner liquidation auction Jan. 16 to sell inventory from the Kent Rental fleet ranging from small hand tools to reach forklifts. The online auction attracted more than 13,200 visitors from 119 countries who bought 333 pieces of equipment. “This auction exceeded our expectations by more than 20%,” said R. Andrew Kent, managing member of Kent Rental.

The Telvent OASyS DNA 7.5 SCADA system has been installed on Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Peace Pipeline. All Pembina pipelines are now controlled by a Telvent OASyS or OASyS DNA system.

SiteWise, a subsurface utility engineering firm, has a contract with Xcel Energy to provide locating services for underground gas and electric facilities in the Colorado area, including south Denver, Pueblo and along the Western Slope.

Multinational Logistics and Allied Services Ltd., along with PETROLIS and sister company Offshore Consulting & Supervision, have formed a partnership to provide specialized personnel to the oil and gas industry operating in Nigeria. The aim of the partnership is to provide all required human and equipment resources as well as documentation to ensure companies meet all the country’s administrative and authorization requirements.
