GE Nets Contract For Chinas Second West to East Pipeline

China National Petroleum Corporation awarded a supply contract to GE Oil & Gas for its Second West East Gas pipeline project that will connect Xinjiang in the northwest to the southern province of Guangdong.

GE will be the primary supplier of compression equipment for the western section of the major project, whose 6,500-km mainline and 13,500 km of branch pipelines will run through 13 provinces and autonomous regions.

When completed, the Second West East project will have a transmission capacity of 30 Bcm/a of natural gas, half of China’s total annual production, which will give 400 million people along the pipeline route access to natural gas. The compressor stations for the project’s second phase are scheduled for commercial operation between the second half of 2010 and the end of 2011.

GE has also supplied equipment for Sinopec’s 1,702-km Puguang-Shanghai gas pipeline. Production of commercial gas will reach 12 Bcm/a by 2010 when the pipeline is scheduled for completion.
