Work Looms In Iraq For Pipeline Inspection

Iraq’s South Oil Company, an affiliate of the Iraqi Oil Ministry, has issued tenders for foreign companies to examine a number of existing oil and gas pipelines in southern Iraq. Specialized companies have been given until May 15 to submit their offers.

Among the pipelines that the SOC tendered to examine are the two offshore pipelines, each 50 km long, between the Fao storage facility and the Basra export terminal in the Persian Gulf. These two pipelines carry the bulk of Iraq’s crude oil exports. The winning contractor needs to carry out a complete project of engineering inspection and integrity assessment by pigging, using MFL technique of the mentioned crude oil export pipelines.

Other pipelines the company wants to check are the crude oil pipeline which runs from Fao to the nearby Khor al-Amaya export terminal, the 343 km Basra to Najaf crude oil pipeline, and the Basra to Najaf gas pipeline.
