Permits Granted for Bakken Pipeline Beneath ND Lake
The North Dakota Public Service Commission unanimous backed a Hess Corp. crude oil pipeline that will run under Lake Sakakawea. The $105 million project will convert an 8-inch pipeline to transfer Bakken crude oil along a 2.4 mile section of pipe buried 6 feet under the lake bottom in 1992.
It will connect a 10-mile section of new pipeline on the lake’s south side with a 12.8-mile segment on the north side that will transfer oil to the Ramberg Truck Facility near Tioga, ND. New 12-inch pipeline sections will be buried at least five feet underground. When completed the system will havea capacity of 76,000 bpd.
Separately, the commission OK’d a permit for Hess to build an NGL pipeline parallel to the pipeline. Using new and existing lines, the $37 million project will be able to carry 30,000 bpd.
