TransCanada Amends Filing for Energy East Pipeline

TransCanada filed an amendment to its existing application with the National Energy Board (NEB) to adjust the proposed route, scope and capital cost of the Energy East pipeline project based on extensive landowner, environmental, community and customer input.

The original Energy East proposal called for construction and operation of a 4,500-km crude oil pipeline system from Hardisty, Alberta to St. John, New Brunswick. The changes come in response to community comments, along with efforts by TransCanada to better optimize environmentally sound pipeline routing, which resulted in close to 700 route changes to the project. Changes to the project schedule and scope have contributed to a revised capital cost of $15.7 billion, excluding the transfer of Canadian Mainline natural gas assets.
