David N. Parker
David N. Parker, who served 13 years as president and CEO of the American Gas Association (AGA), died May 10. He was 80 years old.
Parker joined AGA in September 1997 and was instrumental in raising AGA’s profile, instilling a collaborative culture and delivering a heightened level of value for its members. In 1998, Parker moved AGA’s office from Crystal City to Washington, D.C.
During his tenure, Parker initiated work with the International Gas Union, enhancing their operations to ensure greater global coordination, a step that led to the U.S. hosting both LNG17 in Texas in 2013 and the World Gas Conference in Washington in 2018.
In a statement, the AGA said Parker was known by his staff as a player-coach: “Parker had a ‘roll-up your sleeves’ type of leadership style that drove creativity, collaboration and results. He led the organization to not only show value, but to look ahead and think strategically about the future of the organization and the industry.”
Parker is survived by his wife Carol, son Kyle and his wife Michelle, and daughter Megan and her husband Dan.
