Environmental Review of Line 3 Enbridge Pipeline Project to Begin
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A decision was made today by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to begin a comprehensive environmental review of Enbridge Energy’s proposed replacement for the company’s Line 3 pipeline.
The decision was issued after the Commission denied motions filed by several environmental organizations that would have further delayed review of the project, which will replace a nearly 60-year-old line that delivers crude oil to refineries in Minnesota and nearby states with a pipeline built with state of the art materials and leak-prevention technology.
The pipeline will be rerouted and rebuilt between Clearbrook and Superior, Wisconsin, at a cost of more than $2.6 billion.
It could create an estimated 3,000 high paying jobs in Northern Minnesota, while helping to keep fuel prices down and lessening the economic, environmental, and public safety risks posed by requiring Enbridge to continue patching up an existing outdated pipeline.
