Williams’ Natural Gas Pipeline Ruptures in Alabama

Authorities in Alabama responded to calls from residents following the rupture of a natural gas pipeline in Marengo County on Tuesday, according to Alabama News Network.
The incident happened at a natural gas compressor facility owned by The Williams Companies Inc., located on Highway 69 in southwest Marengo County — about 5 miles south of the town Myrtlewood.
The Marengo County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday following multiple calls from residents — some miles away from the site.
The Williams Companies Inc. confirmed the pipeline rupture and released this statement:
“At approximately 8:15 a.m. CT on April 12, employees at a Williams natural gas compressor facility located in Marengo County, Alabama witnessed indications of a pipeline rupture and associated natural gas release. To minimize environmental impacts, ensure safety and isolate the equipment, Williams employees initiated emergency shutdown procedures. There were no employee injuries, there is no impact to customer deliveries and the cause of the incident is being investigated. There was no ignition, fire, or explosion associated with this event.”
The cause of the pipeline rupture is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
