INGAA Publishes 2023 Climate Report
(P&GJ) — The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), a trade association representing the vast majority of the interstate natural gas transmission pipeline companies in the U.S. and Canada, published its second Climate Report, highlighting member company progress in delivering reliable energy while reducing emissions.
The 2023 Climate Report builds on INGAA’s commitment to environmental stewardship, responsibility, and transparency, as well as members’ ongoing efforts reduce emissions from transmission and storage operations.
“At INGAA, we understand the evolving landscape of the energy industry and the pressing need to address climate change,” Amy Andryszak, president and CEO of INGAA, said. “Our members are at the forefront of investing in cutting-edge technology and innovation to ensure natural gas transmission and storage operations are part of the clean energy future. For years, our members have worked to reduce methane emissions from their operations and are leading the effort to modernize our nation’s energy infrastructure to meet the dual goals of lowering emissions and delivering affordable, clean energy safely and reliably to homes and businesses.”
Highlights from the 2023 Climate Report:
- INGAA members achieved a commendable methane intensity of 0.077% in 2021, meaning more than 99.9% of natural gas transported through INGAA members’ assets reached its intended destination.
- Total methane emissions were less than 1% of all methane emitted in the United States in 2021 at 0.949%.
- INGAA’s first-ever GHG scorecard highlights the progress members are making to meet Climate Commitments and reduce emissions across operations.
“Environmental responsibility is core to INGAA members’ operations,” said Scott Yager, INGAA’s Vice President of Environment. “INGAA members have achieved significant greenhouse gas reductions from transmission & storage operations. But the work is not done. In the coming years, we will see additional operational changes that further reduce methane emissions, expand the use of innovative technologies, and support our members’ work in renewable natural gas, hydrogen, carbon capture & storage, and responsibly-sourced gas—all of which will further reduce our industry’s climate footprint.”
