Gevo Surpasses Production Milestone in Renewable Natural Gas

(P&GJ) — Gevo Inc. has reported reaching a new production milestone in its renewable natural gas (RNG) business, achieving an annualized rate of approximately 402,000 MMBtu in May.

“I am pleased that we achieved an annualized production rate of approximately 402,000 MMBtu in May, exceeding our previous record of approximately 401,000 MMBtu in March,” Staci Bogue-Buchholz, vice president and general manager of Gevo’s RNG facilities, said.

In June, Gevo faced operational challenges due to severe flooding in Rock Valley, Iowa, impacting the community but maintaining monthly RNG production of 29,082 MMBtu. Despite this disruption, Gevo remains on track to meet its annual production target of about 400,000 MMBtu.

Addressing the community impact, Bogue-Buchholz expressed sympathy and commitment to supporting recovery efforts. Gevo's RNG is derived from methane biogas captured at three northwest Iowa dairy farms, processed into pipeline-quality RNG, and injected into local gas pipelines.

RNG, a renewable substitute for fossil-based methane, significantly mitigates greenhouse gas emissions, benefiting markets like California's low-carbon fuels market. Gevo anticipates receiving a permanent carbon intensity score from the California Air Resources Board by the end of 2024, expected to double non-GAAP cash EBITDA generated by its RNG business.
