Natural Gas Electricity Generation in Pennsylvania Doubles in 10 Years, EIA Reports

(Reuters) — Electricity generation using natural gas has more than doubled in Pennsylvania since 2013, driven by a shift toward clean energy, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday.
Last October, more than 57% of the state's electricity was generated through natural gas, compared with 26% in October 2013, according to the government agency.
Natural gas-fired generation hit a record monthly high of 15.3 million megawatt hours (MWh) in Pennsylvania in July 2024, as heatwaves led to peak electricity demand in some parts of the United States, the EIA said.
