Burns & McDonnell Makes Leadership Change

Randy Schmidt has been named Managing Director of the Burns & McDonnell Terminals and Pipelines group, replacing Ted Born, who is retiring. Schmidt’s promotion was effective Jan. 1, 2017.

Schmidt will be based in Houston, where he will lead a nationwide group of 140 engineering, procurement, and construction professionals who are engaged on several large-volume storage and transportation projects for a range of petroleum-based products. In his 14 years with Burns & McDonnell, Schmidt has led teams on a wide range of projects, including several major oil and gas pipeline, storage and loading/unloading facilities for marine, rail and truck modes of transportation.

“The oil and gas industry is a fast and furious business and Randy has a track record of excelling in that type of environment,” said Mike Fenske, senior vice president, Burns & McDonnell. “Meeting aggressive schedules on complex, high-budget petroleum projects has become our specialty. Randy is an expert on EPC project delivery with a deep understanding of the true benefits it can deliver to clients.”

During his 24 years of professional experience, Schmidt has specialized in leading multi-discipline teams on all phases of large-scale facilities improvements. In addition to his oil and gas experience, he has overseen completion of a program of projects through EPC delivery for the district heating and cooling plant serving the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world.

Schmidt earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is a registered professional engineer.
