Sonatrach Reports Two Leaks on OK1 Oil Pipeline
(P&GJ) — Algerian oil firm Sonatrach on Thursday reported two leaks on its OK1 oil pipeline which carries crude from a facility in the eastern town of Hassi Masaoud to the port town of Skikda.
The company blamed flooding resulting from bad weather.
The first leak occurred at the SP2 pumping station, in Jammeh. This was reported to have come at around the 190 km (118-mile) point and the company said maintenance teams have brought it under control and repairs are under way.
The second leak came at the 263 km (163-mile) point in Al Mughayer. Sonatrach said it had isolated the section and was taking all necessary measures to control the problem.
The company announced it had stop pumping through the 34-inch line and also mobilized technical teams to carry out repairs.
Sonatrach workers will inspect the areas where the spills occurred and work to eliminate any environmental impact.
The 645 km (400-mile) pipeline was built in 1972 and runs from the Haoud El Hamra facility to a refinery in Skikda.
