AGA Launches Earth Day Radio Campaign Promoting Home Energy Efficiency
The American Gas Association (AGA) has launched a public service announcement campaign on radio stations across the country April 22 in honor of Earth Day. The campaign encourages Americans to be more earth friendly – and save money – by improving their home’s energy efficiency.
“America’s natural gas utilities and their customers have made huge strides in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions the past few decades,” said David Parker, AGA president and CEO. “Common sense steps such as sealing drafty doors and windows and switching to high-efficiency natural gas appliances can make a huge difference in a home’s emissions output and energy costs.”
According to the AGA, improvements in home energy efficiency have lowered natural gas users’ greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent since 1970 – despite the fact that the number of customers has doubled since that time. Some natural gas utilities have promoted energy efficiency by offering cash rebates and low-interest financing for high-efficiency natural gas appliance purchases, and providing home energy audits and weatherization kits.
AGA’s PSA campaign also includes information about the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and how it can help eligible Americans offset weatherization costs and energy-related home repairs.
“Our aim is for the campaign to serve as a friendly reminder to all Americans that there is energy, time and money to be saved,” said Parker. “If even a small portion of listeners take action, the earth will be a cleaner place.”
The PSAs and related energy tips are available at the AGA’s website.
