Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Review
Kinder Morgan has not met the conditions set by British Columbia for expansion of its Trans Mountain pipeline, according to findings the B.C. environment minister submitted to Canada’s National Energy Board.
The original Trans Mountain Pipeline was built in 1953 and continues to operate. Expansion of the existing 1,150-km pipeline between Strathcona County (near Edmonton), Alberta and Burnaby, BC would create a twinned pipeline that would increase the nominal capacity of the system from 300,000 bpd to 890,000 bpd.
The expansion calls for some 980 km of new pipeline construction. In the written submission to the NEB, the ministry listed five conditions the project would have to meet before it would be permitted in the province of British Columbia.
